De \u00ab\u00a0Great Belt Fixed Link\u00a0\u00bb is een 18 km (11 mi) lange brug-tunnelverbinding tussen de Deense eilanden Seeland en Funen, en het ongeval deed zich voor op de West Bridge, dichtbij Funen. Het ongeval gebeurde tijdens een storm waardoor de brug gesloten was voor het wegverkeer, maar niet voor het treinverkeer.<\/p>\n<p>De voorlopige conclusies van het Nationale Onderzoeksorgaan (NIB &#8211; National Investigation Body) van Denemarken tonen aan dat opleggers mogelijk onvoldoende tegen de bewegingen zijn beschermd wanneer deze op \u201cpocket-wagons\u201d worden vervoerd. In het bijzonder bleek het mechanisme dat de vergrendeling van de koppelpen van de koppelinrichting (type FW6170) van \u201cpocket wagons\u201d garandeert, meermaals ontgrendeld te zijn. Daarom heeft het Deense National Investigation Body een veiligheidswaarschuwing uitgebracht en heeft de Deense nationale Veiligheidsinstantie (NSA) bij het Joint Network Secretariat (JNS) de opstart van een spoedprocedure aangevraagd.<br \/>\nHet JNS Panel, vertegenwoordiger van de hele spoorwegsector, aanvaardde de aanvraag en heeft een werkgroep opgericht die wordt georganiseerd en voorgezeten door het Spoorwegbureau van de Europese Unie (ERA).<\/p>\n<p>De werkgroep bestond uit experten van de betrokken sectororganisaties en heeft een actieplan vastgelegd met verzachtende maatregelen op korte termijn.
