The Great Belt Fixed Link is an 18\u00a0km (11\u00a0mi) long\u00a0bridge\u2013tunnel\u00a0connection between the Danish islands of\u00a0Zealand\u00a0and\u00a0Funen, and the accident happened on the West Bridge, near Funen. The accident happened during a storm, which had closed down the bridge for road traffic, but not for rail traffic.<\/p>\n<p>The interim findings from the National Investigation Body (NIB) of Denmark show that semi-trailers may not be sufficiently secured against movement when transported on pocket wagons. In particular, the mechanism that ensures the locking of the kingpin in the hitch (type FW6170) of the pocket wagons was found to be unlocked on several occasions.\u00a0 This is why the Danish NIB issued a safety alert and the Danish<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-340 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/www.rail-investigation.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/danemark_great_belt_bridge2-300x160.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"160\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rail-investigation.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/danemark_great_belt_bridge2-300x160.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rail-investigation.be\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/danemark_great_belt_bridge2.jpg 563w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/> National Safety Authority (NSA) of Denmark notified a request to launch a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.era.europa.eu\/activities\/joint-network-secretariat_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Joint Network Secretariat (JNS)<\/a>\u00a0Urgent Procedure.<br \/>\nThe JNS Panel, representing the entire railway sector, agreed and established a task force which was organised and chaired by the European Union Agency for Railways.<\/p>\n<p>The task force was composed of experts from the concerned sector organisations and has defined an\u00a0action plan containing short-term mitigation measures.
